Im just about to start my wee one on solid food.  I tried her with a little baby rice and she is forever choking.  Is there a better way to do this.  I worry she will breath it in and get sick.

The problem with some babies is that when you go from sucking to swallowing they get confused.  Best way to do this is to not allow her to creat a seal.  What i mean is when she is sucking on a bottle there is a seal there, as you know when you try take the bottle off her before she is ready, she can do this also on a spoon and before she knows what hit her its gone back to the back of her throat.  When you place the spoon in her mouth also put a finger in there a little just enough to stop her from sucking.  You will find she will start using her tongue instead.

Dont worry about her getting ill.  Yes if a human inhailes solid or liquid food into their lungs they can get Pneumonia, but babies are fantastic at coughing up what they inhail.  There is a more likley chance you will inhail food then she will.

Hi there
WHat age is your baby? One shouldn't introduce solids until the baby is 4 months old( when on formula milk) or 6 months old if on breast milk. try putting tiny amounts in baby's mouth first and make sure baby is sitting up as straight as possible. As chatting saya don't let baby create a seal around the spoon.ALso I find that if  I follow the directions on the babyrice boxes the food is very thick,so at the start I add a little extra cool boiled water so that the rice is a smooth consistency.Goodluck!
